Cloud and Hardy Daytona Play Arts Review!

Cloud is the main protagonist from Final Fantasy VII. Towards the beginning of the game he rode a motorbike called the Hardy Daytona to escape from Shinra.

I got this Play Arts for my birthday this year! It is the Play Arts n.0 Cloud and Hardy Daytona produced by Square Enix and originally released in 04/2008.This review will mostly be about the Hardy Daytona, since the Cloud is very similar to the regular Play Arts Cloud.

Box: This is a huge box, but other than that has all the typical features of a Play Arts box, like circle tape.

Accessories: Well the box has a Cloud, the Hardy Daytona, a normal play arts stand for the cloud, his buster sword, the same hands as regular cloud, and an extra set of hands to hold on to the bikes handle bars. There are more accessories than usual, but I can’t seem to get the bike handle hands to actually hold on to the bike! am I doing something wrong?

Sculpt: The bike is absolutely awesome! It is very detailed in every aspect of the sculpt, has working shocks, a kick stand (that folds) to help it stand up, and turning tires. The tires are made of a soft rubber which makes them realistic and even have tread marks. The bike handles themselves do not turn very much!

Paint: The paint job on this bike is fantastic. There are no bleeds in the paint.

Pose-ability: Well the bike can either be posed by itself using the kickstand, or with Cloud on it. Here I should mention that this Cloud is alot more flexible than the original Cloud because his legs spread wider to allow him to sit on the bike. As mentioned above, the handle bars dont turn much.

Cloud Comparison: The Cloud’s are supposed to be pretty much the same but they look slightly different. The bodies of the two Clouds looks identical, the difference is in the heads. Hd (hardy daytona) Cloud has taller and yellower spiky hair than normal Cloud. Hd Cloud also has paler skin and a slightly different face paint! Hd Cloud is on the left, and regular Cloud is on the right.

Overall: This is a must have for any FF7 fan. I would recommend getting this Cloud and Hardy Daytona over just getting the regular Play Arts Cloud. This one is more fun to play with, more handsome, and looks awesome on a shelf. The only bad thing about this figure is that Cloud doesn’t fit onto the bike perfectly. His hands cant hold the handle bars easily and his feet don’t seem to fit into the foot peddles.

Dead Master nendoroid Review

Dead Master is the main antagonist of the Black Rock Shooter OVA. She is the other self of Yomi who is the main characters best friend. The storyline is confusing at best so I wont even try to explain it. Just know that dead master is sinister and flashy! She licks her fingers for show and has a rather evil smile.

I bought this nendoroid at a local anime shop for $50. She is produced by Good Smile Company, was sculpted by JUN (E.V.), and was originally released 12/22/2010.

Packaging: She comes in a typical nendoroid box. Unlike BRS, dead master’s box doesn’t have the split top flap.

Accessories: In the black rock shooter line of nendoroids, she certainly doesn’t disappoint and comes with as many accessories as BRS. She comes with 3 extra face plates! extra hands, arms, and legs. She also comes with a beaten up hair set that goes along with the beaten up face. On top of that she comes with her two skull minions which have a special stand attachment and her scythe! Oh yeah, and she comes with a stand very similar to that of BRS.

Stand: The base to this figure is excellent continuing the theme of the BRS series. The base has a movable clear plastic arm to attach to her back, and clear stands to connect to the back of the base which allow her skull minions to “float” behind her.

Sculpt: The sculpt on this toy is far more impressive in person than it is in the official pictures. Her hair looks fantastic, and her horns are rather huge but seem in good proportion with the head. There is a lot of detail in the scythe! Another neat feature is that her demon horns and wings are removable!

Paint: Her faces look great and there are hardly any bleed or paint mistakes. Her outfit has a nice matte black finish too it, and there are subtle green undertones in her hair. Her horns and wings are a shiny black, but not clear like those of the figma appear to be. There is some bleed at the white bows on her back, and there is a scratch in her hair in the side.

Pose-ability: There are a variety of adorable poses that she can be placed in including a beaten up pose. Unlike with BRS where the beaten up pose is my favorite, I enjoy dead masters sinister looks far better. My only gripe is that she is a pain in the butt to get into her poses, the stand is difficult to attach and her wings like to fall out. The scythe is also difficult to maneuver into her arms since her hair seems to get in the way. Once I attached the skulls to their base attachment (which can luckily be removed from the stand as a unit), there was no way I was removing them again! The bumps on her extra hair are also remove-able much like her wings and horns.

Overall, This is one of the best looking nendoroids I have and definitely steals the spotlight on my nendoroid shelf! she is however not my favorite nendoroid to play with because I am too lazy to pose her since it takes a little effort. However, she is an excellent addition to the brs nendoroid line and I can’t wait to see what the upcoming Black Gold Saw and Strength bring to the table!

Toshiro Hitsugaya Play Arts Kai Review

Toshiro Hitsugaya is a character in the anime Bleach. He is the young captain of the 10th squad of the soul society (the place where souls go when they die). He is the youngest captain in the soul society and has an icy demeanor to match the ability of his sword. He is often cold towards people and has a short temper. He has little tolerance for fooling around or being treated like a child. He gets very annoyed when he is called by anything except Captain Hitsugaya, esp. when he is called Shiro-chan.

I got this toy for Christmas, but it can be found at Hastings. It is the Hitsugaya Toushirou Bleach Play Arts Kai produced by Square Enix. This toy was released on 11/2010, and is considered a US release exclusive.

Packaging: The box looks like other Play Arts Kai boxes, but is slightly smaller (the toys itself is smaller). The interior of the box is green to match Shiro-chan’s eyes and the box is closed with circle tape.

Accessories: He comes with extra hands, a sword and sheath, and a green plastic ribbon to hold the sheath onto his back. This toy does not come with a stand. There are some annoyances with the accessories! Try as I will, the sword sheath does not fit into the green ribbon! Its too tight! I’ve tried forcing it in but to no avail. The other annoyance is that Toshiro’s ankles are weak and he constantly falls over without a stand. He has to be balanced just right to stay up. There are already some paint mistakes where he has fallen!

Sculpt: This is the best looking Toshiro that I’ve seen. They captured his surly mood perfectly in his facial expression. He is also in correct scale with Ichigo (compared to the anime). He only reaches Ichigo’s shoulder, which is perfect since he is supposed to be a kid. The coat is split into two parts to allow for more pose-ability but I feel they could have made the split a little more seamless. It is very obvious in the back. Strangely, one of his ankles seems to be facing the wrong direction? The elbow joints and leg joints are very well hidden in his outfit!

Paint: The paint on the face is outstanding and his eyes look amazing! The paint on his captains cloak is also done very well, there are no bleeds in the color and the inside is a nice emerald green. If I were going to nitpick, I would say his hair could have been more white and less gray, but he still looks awesome either way.

Pose-ability: This toy is very pose-able. The range of movement on the limbs is excellent. His arms have enough movement to allow him to be posed as if he were pulling the sword out of his sheath on his back…if i could get the sheath into the sheath belt! grrrr…As mentioned above, his ankles are a little weak and his one foot is never positioned quite right for him to stand sturdily.

Overall, I would recommend this toy to any Bleach fan or Toshiro fan. He looks absolutely fantastic, just be sure to have the patience to balance him wherever he stands or just buy some sort of doll stand  lol

Ichigo Kurosaki Play Arts Kai Review

Ichigo Kurosaki is a teenage boy and the main character of Bleach. He is an unusual boy in that he has bright orange hair and can see ghosts. One day he meets a soul reaper named Rukia and gains the powers of a soul reaper himself to save his family. Rukia is then convicted as a criminal and Ichigo trains as a soul reaper to try and save her. To do this he must achieve Bankai (which is basically a rise in power level which involves a release of his sword and a new outfit =P). 300 episodes or countless chapters later, more stuff happens….let’s just leave it at that.

I got this figure for Christmas! It can be found at Hastings for about $50. This is the Play Arts Kai – Bankai version of Ichigo. This was released on 11/2010 and is considered a US exclusive release.

Box: This toy comes in the typical Play Arts Kai box. It’s large, white, square, has a front viewing window, and is closed with circle tape!

Accessories: Ichigo comes with extra hands, his tensa-zangetsu (sword in bankai form), and an extra head depicting his hollow (a type of soul in the Bleach universe) mask. He does not come with a stand, but can stand fine on his own without one.The extra head was rather bothersome! Ichigo’s neck has a peg in it to which the heads can be attached as seen in the instructions! The extra head, however, already had a peg in it! It was an easy fix, I just took pliers and pulled the peg out of the head.

Sculpt: The sculpt on this toy is amazing. This is by far the best looking Ichigo I’ve seen. He looks just like he does in the later episodes of the anime. He is in scale with the FF13 Play Arts Kai line. There are a lot of nice details on the sculpt like the bandages on his stomach, and the sandals he is wearing. The only funky part of the sculpt is the back of the coat, its split into two pieces (a top and a bottom). This looks a  little odd and I don’t think keeping the coat in one piece would have sacrificed much pose-ability. Oh yeah, and the knee joints have been greatly improved on this new line!

Paint: The paint on this is pretty excellent but has the small flaws that can usually be found on Play Arts. Hes got some sort of a dark mark on his cheek, not too noticeable thankfully. The shading in his face and on his outfit is really good! My favorite part of this is the hollow mask through which you can see his yellow hollow eyes.

Pose-ability: This toy is very pose-able, as is expected of the Play Arts Kai line. Despite wearing those wide pants, his legs have freedom of movement. His ankles and feet can be adjusted so he can balance in different poses. His arms are also fairly pose-able but cannot extend over his head.

Overall, this toy is definitely recommended. He’s not my all-time favorite character, but this toy is awesome, looks good on the shelf, and is rather fun!

C.C. by Banpresto Review

C.C. (C2) is a character from the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. She is an immortal teenage girl who becomes the main characters accomplice through a contract. This contract gives him the power to control anyone. Another notable feature of this character is that she loves pizza!

I bought this toy at Akon 21 for $20. This is a figure of the C.C. Code Geass R2 A Version produced by Banpresto and released on 12/2008. This is probably one of the best buys I made at A-kon because it was one of the cheapest buys.

Box: The box of this figure is fairly small, black, has a picture of the figure on the front and some japanese writing on it. The box also has a rubber band hook at the top. This figure was originally available as a prize from a machine so that may be the reason for the rubber hook. The box is also much smaller than the figure, because she comes in pieces and has to be stuck together (no glue required =P).

Base: Just a nice plain circular black base (my favorite kind)

Sculpt: The sculpt on this toy is pretty good considering it only cost $20. There are a bunch of obvious seamlines in the hair, and where the figure gets put together on the legs. The hands look really delicate, and the toy has really nice proportions. The toy is also fairly large for being so cheap and fits well on the shelf with all my other 1/8th scale figures.

Paint: Well, once again, considering that it was cheap the paint job is decent!. Her face is a little shinier than I prefer, but there are almost no bleeds, The lines on the skirt could have been done better but for $20 it’s great.

Pose: The pose looks really unnatural (Why would anyone stand like that?) but matches the character perfectly. The pose is also very dynamic, and definitely not boring.

Overall, I would recommend this figure for its cheap price and decent quality.

New Years Resolutions for 2011!

So this year I will stick to my New Years resolutions! yeah… so first off, im going to loose weight…joking. Since this blog is about toys,

Here are my figure collecting resolutions for 2011!:

1. Buy only 1 figure a month!

2. Buy only figures from characters/shows that I know and like

3. Will not spend more than $80 on a single figure

4. Stop buying trading figures

5. get another display shelf to clear the clutter

6. do not fill aforementioned shelf to the point that it is cluttered!

7. update this blog at least every other week!

8. make an exception to resolution #2 if the character is a cute trap…this list is going down hill, maybe I should stop, resolutions aren’t supposed to have exceptions =(

Well that’s about it, if I can stick to these resolutions then maybe I won’t go broke indulging in this PVC addiction. What are some of your new years resolutions?

L is ready to watch the time square ball drop! Happy New Year everyone!
